Agile PM Online Roundtable: How can a new team start with estimating?

Details
Anything that is worth doing solves a problem for someone. And if that solution is compelling enough, the people facing that problem want to know when the solution will be available. This desire for certainty about timelines and deliverables compels teams to estimate their contribution to the overall solution.
Despite a large body of literature and decades of collective experience planning and estimating work, accurate estimation remains elusive. Our work (and the people who do that work!) is complex and is rarely repeatable. When a new team is formed to rally around a new problem to solve, one of the first questions they ask themselves is, "How will we estimate our work?"
At this Agile PM Roundtable, we'll convene a Lean Coffee to explore our experiences and ideas for establishing an estimation practice for a team. We'll discuss the techniques have been effective for us and the techniques that we ultimately discarded. We hope you'll bring your experiences with story pointing, release forecasting, #noestimates, and any other estimation practices you've applied.
Lean Coffee lets everyone present contribute to the conversation and direct it towards the topics they are most interested in. We hope to see you there!

AgilePDX is providing a forum for Agile Project Managers, Agile Facilitators, and Scrum Masters to gather online once a month and discuss all things project, program, and portfolio related. Please join us for a Lean Coffee style event facilitated by experienced Agile PM's and instructors in the PMI Agile Certified Practitioner prep program.
You'll be dialing in from your desktop with your favorite early morning brew. Please join with your camera on. The Zoom URL will be provided to confirmed attendees. Feel free to post questions to this meetup prior to the event.
We welcome divergent opinions and experience reports. Bring your challenges for groups feedback and support. Plan to join 15 minutes early for coffee clatch chat and networking or stay 15 minutes for the same networking experience.
