A lot has changed in the 20 years since Agile entered the mainstream. An entire generation of workers have no experience with "big design up front" waterfall processes. The months-long project plans and "phase reviews" that Agile revolted against are the stuff of spooky campfire stories. For many organizations (perhaps the majority), Agile is just "how work is done".

But what if you're new to Agile? Maybe you're just entering the workforce. Maybe you're changing careers or industries. You might be confused (or intrigued) by what you see: Why do people have standup meetings? What's up with all of the tasks? Are Retrospectives supposed to be this awkward?

If you've been living and working in Agility for years, what advice do you have for people who are just starting their journey? What would you do more of? What would you avoid like the plague?

This October, the Agile PM Roundtable is going "back to school" to discuss what it means to start your Agile journey in the year 2025. We're doing extra outreach to local colleges and university to attract a diverse audience of participants who can bring a variety of perspectives on Agility. We meet in Lean Coffee to explore topics like:

  • Beyond the Manifesto, how can I learn about the underlying principals of Agile?
  • What are organizations looking for in Agilists? Which certifications are relevant?
  • What resources are available for learning Agile from scratch?
  • What tools and techniques should you learn first? Which ones aren’t worth learning?

Lean Coffee is full of insights and surprises. It's powered by you, the participants. We hope to see you there!

AgilePDX in conjunction with the Portland PMI chapter provides a forum for Agile Project Managers, Agile Facilitators, and Scrum Masters to gather online once a month and discuss all things project, program, and portfolio related. Please join us for a Lean Coffee style event facilitated by experienced Agile PM's and instructors in the PMI Agile Certified Practitioner prep program.

You'll be dialing in from your desktop with your favorite early morning brew. Please join with your camera on. The Zoom URL will be provided to confirmed attendees. Feel free to post questions to this meetup prior to the event.

We welcome divergent opinions and experience reports. Bring your challenges for groups feedback and support.
