[PAID]-Professional Scrum Product Backlog Management Skills Training
Details
Your backlog has 340 items. When was the last time anyone read past item 20?
Every Product Owner knows the feeling. The backlog started as a plan and quietly turned into a landfill: old requests nobody wants to delete, items so large they've been "in refinement" for two months, and an order that reflects who asked loudest rather than what's worth building.
This is a one-day, hands-on Scrum.org class about fixing exactly that.
Professional Scrum Product Backlog Management Skills (PSPBMS) is a skills course, not a theory course. You won't spend the day being told what a Product Backlog is. You'll spend it working on one ā cutting items down, arguing about order, rewriting stakeholder demands into something a developer can actually build, and defending your choices out loud.
What the day actually looks like
You'll work in small groups on a shared collaboration board for most of the session.
Expect to:
Take a raw stakeholder demand - "we need a dashboard" - and work out what they're actually trying to decide, before it becomes an item
Slice a genuinely large item into smaller ones that are still worth shipping on their own (not split by front-end / back-end / database)
Take a bloated, tag-heavy, five-levels-deep backlog and make it simple, then check what you actually lost
Build an order you can justify, and practise being challenged on it
Map your real stakeholders and work out what each of them needs to see
Say no to a request without damaging the relationship
You'll leave with
The PSPBM Skills certification password from Scrum.org ā worth $200 on its own, plus a free second attempt if you sit the exam within 14 days and miss the 85% pass mark
The slicing patterns, refinement checklists and stakeholder maps used in class, ready to use with your team on Monday
A backlog problem of your own that you've actually worked on during the day
Who this is for
Product Owners who want practical ways to handle their stakeholders and their backlog.
Product Managers and Business Analysts who want sharper refinement skills.
Scrum Masters who want to be genuinely useful to their Product Owner instead of just chairing the meeting.
And anyone who writes, describes, orders or explains Product Backlog items for a living.
Prerequisites: None.
A working understanding of Scrum helps, PSM I or PSPO I is an advantage but not required, and plenty of people take this class before either.
