The Hidden Impact of Websites: Building a Greener Digital World

Details
In our (slightly delayed) September meetup on October 1st, our speaker Matt Wheeler is an expert in building minimal carbon websites, and helping others to do it.
This workshop dives into the environmental impact of software development, often an overlooked aspect of sustainability. We'll explore how code efficiency and design choices can significantly influence the digital landscape's energy consumption and resource utilisation. This workshop equips you with the knowledge to make software choices that minimise environmental footprint and empower you to move towards a greener digital future.
Matt is the Co-Founder & Digital Director of madeby.studio, a digital agency specialising in crafting sustainable websites and applications that are good for the planet and your bottom line. They pride themselves on their commitment to technical excellence, building digital solutions with sustainability & accessibility ingrained at every step of the process.
He is also the Co-Founder & Operations Manager of GreenTech Gathering, a relaxed and informal networking event series for individuals and organisations interested in sustainability. To kick start our journey to becoming a brighter, greener region, GreenTech Gathering has hosted events throughout Leeds that aim to bring together our community, working together towards making our world a better place. These events are not just about networking, but about inspiring and motivating each other to take action for a sustainable future.
Join Joanne Stone, Maryse Meinen, and Joanna Masraff, your event hosts for the evening.
The vision of Agilists4Sustainability is to make small steps of action toward planetary challenges locally so we can create hope globally. A very aspiring vision that passionate Agilists support. Here are some of the ways this community can bring this vision to life:
• Inspire action and compassion through stories of how agility impacted wicked (gnarly) problems of our planet,
• Share practices and experiments so that we can learn from each other,
• Identify and share projects where we can support each other to succeed and learn,
• Make visible all the significant impacts we are making across the globe.
See you there!
