Political Discussion: Nationalism and the National Question

Details
Join Agitate for a discussion of nationalism and ‘the national question’!
For the last two centuries the problem of nationalist sentiment has stirred the minds of revolutionary thinkers across Europe and the world as a whole. How do we mobilise the multitudes for social struggle when confronted by seemingly insurmountable cultural barriers? What role should national frontiers play in the future of human civilisation, if any? How does the state component of the ‘nation-state’ paradigm fit into all this? And finally, how might radical direct democracy help to resolve some of the crises afflicting nations, peoples, and communities?
All these questions and more will be raised during our facilitated discussion of this contentious issue. The reading will be Murray Bookchin’s essay ‘Nationalism and the “Nationalist Question”’, which can be found here. Please do give it a read before attending, as it will greatly help in understanding the core purpose of the meeting.
