Political Discussion: What is Libertarian Municipalism?

Details

Hello and welcome to the next meeting of Agitate, the new political meetup centred on direct democracy and ecological harmony.

The aim of this meeting is to explore a central idea of modern libertarian thought: libertarian municipalism. This is a philosophy of direct democracy, in which centralised rule is replaced by networks of town meetings open to all local residents and given the power to mandate and recall their elected officials.

If you think this idea is interesting and you'd like to learn more, please come along to our meeting, where we'll be discussing Murray Bookchin's article 'Libertarian Municipalism: The New Municipal Agenda', which you can find here.

We'll open with a round of introductions, before diving straight in to the topic with a facilitated discussion. Then we'll have a break halfway through before returning to the table with a more general look at the subject, before closing with a go-around to discuss takeaways from the event.

We welcome all participants, no matter their background or level of familiarity with social theory.

Hope to see you there, and until then, have a great week!
