Spec-Driven Development in the Real World: From BMAD to Custom Skills

After a brief introduction of our community, Fabrice will deep dive on how we can use Spec-Driven Development in the Real World by sharing his journey on AI through BMAD to Custom Skills.

Abstract:
Most AI coding workflows look great on a fresh codebase with one developer. In this talk, Fabrice shares what spec-driven development actually looks like across two contexts: solo and small-team projects where he uses BMAD for initiation then OpenSpec or SpecKit for implementation, and client brownfield engagements where a full governance process is not an option. He will walk through real deliverables, compare workflows, and show the custom Claude Code skills he built to get quick wins without the overhead. You will see what the workflow looks like in practice, including what works and what does not.

Fabrice Monnier is a senior freelance Data and Cloud DevOps engineer working across AWS, Azure and Databricks. Based in Brittany, France, he holds a Master Degree in both Computer Science & Market Finance and has spent the last several years building data platforms at scale. He now writes and experiments at the intersection of cloud / data engineering and AI tooling, documenting his workflows on Substack and LinkedIn.
