NYC Open Data is super excited to welcome Ben Wellington, blogger and data scientist extraordinaire, to speak at our meetup on July 15, 2015. Ben’s blog, IQuantNY (http://iquantny.tumblr.com), is a wonderful demonstration of how great storytelling, professional data analytics and open data can be combined to create one of the best data science blogs on the web. He gets people talking about data.

Ben will be talking about the state of Open Data policy in New York City, and where some of its weaknesses lie. He'll also share some lessons he has learned on how to effectively use data science to tell compelling stories. Lastly, he'll share examples of some of the impact that his work has had in the city.

Ben is a professor, who utilizes real NYC data to teach statistics in the City & Regional Planning program at Pratt Institute. He is also a quantitative analyst at a tech company called TwoSigma (http://twosigma.com). Ben hopes to make the city a better place by providing glimpses at the possibilities of a future with truly open data.
