Overview of Catastrophic AI Risks

According to recent reports from leading AI companies, AIs are approaching capabilities that would enable non-experts to acquire WMDs such as bioweapons. Misuse risks are escalating rapidly.

As capabilities increase, AI threats expand, ranging from humans being disempowered as AIs take their roles in society, to losing control of AIs that match or exceed humans in intelligence. And rather than coordinating to manage these dangers responsibly, nations and companies may instead enter an arms race to develop the most powerful AIs.

At this meetup, we’ll aim for a holistic understanding of the various catastrophic risks from AI. We’ll compare them, explore how they interact, and discuss potential solutions.
