Agenda

06:30pm - Doors open, food and drink served

07:00pm - Welcome

07:05pm - Rachel Lee Nabors, Fractional Developer Experience Leader "AI/ML Cram Session"

What do acronyms like RAG and GPT really mean? What is the math behind the “magic” of deep learning? What is a “perceptron” and why is it called a “neural network?” This talk demystifies AI’s field of machine learning for AI-curious technical and non-technical audiences alike. The concepts, mental models, and history needed to grok are colorfully illustrated and explained. From the award-winning cartoonist turned engineer/keynote speaker who has taught millions of developers via react.dev and MDN.

07:45pm - Break

08:00pm - Rhea Mendonca, MSc in Data Science Greenwich University "Unlocking the Potential of Dark Data with Machine Learning"

This talk will focus on how machine learning can unlock the untapped potential of dark data—vast amounts of collected but unused information stored by organizations. I will explain how machine learning techniques can process and analyze this complex, unstructured data to uncover valuable insights that traditional methods often overlook. Through real-world examples from industries like healthcare, finance, and education, I will demonstrate how dark data can drive innovation, improve decision-making, and offer a competitive advantage.
Additionally, I will address the ethical considerations and challenges that come with harnessing dark data, including privacy concerns and data management. Attendees will leave with actionable strategies to begin leveraging dark data within their own organizations, transforming it from a hidden resource into a powerful tool for growth and discovery.

08:40 - Jason Chao, Director, Hongkongers in Britain (HKB) "Understanding immigrants' challenges with help from LLM"
Jason will share HKB's journey of building a tool that summarises and translates UK Hongkongers' discussions of their challenges. The talk will touch on the role of GPT-4o in this tool and the approach to ensuring participants' anonymity. The tool's output will help UK policymakers/local authorities understand UK Hongkongers' settlement challenges in a timely manner.

09:00pm - Wrap up, drinks at Angel London

Our hosts may require that we provide a list of all attendees, please ensure that you register with a name that matches your government issued ID or bank card: if you do not we cannot guarantee you entry to the building.
