### Portland AI Tinkerers – DeepSeek R1 Hackathon + Talks

Last week’s session was fantastic—huge thanks to everyone who joined! ( And Huge sorry to those I meant to follow up with, my research funding was unexpectedly withheld )

And then… I walked into the office on Monday to find that folks had been hacking all weekend in an impromptu DeepSeek R1 hackathon.
Naturally, I shamelessly buttonholed them into giving a talk for you lot—because if you're anything like me, you're wildly curious about what DeepSeek can really do in our world. AND WHAT YOU COULD DO WITH DEEPSEEK AT HOME WITH IT. 💰 Ridiculously cheap. In both dollars and compute cycles. So cheap you can install it at home and do things with your own LLM that Silicon Valley wants to charge you enterprise pricing for—just because they can. And guess what? They aren’t worth it. 😏
