Hermes Agent: Build Your Own AI Operator
Details
Location Update: Astro Boy Room First Floor Ohmni Hotel
Most AI agent demos are still optimized for spectacle, not usefulness.
OpenClaw had its moment.
It proved that autonomous agents could capture attention.
But that is not the real question anymore.
The real question is: what would an AI operator need to remember, do, and respect in order to actually help you every week?
That is what this workshop is about.
At AIxEDU Austin, we’ll use Hermes as the model for a more practical kind of AI operator — one built around memory, task follow-through, tool use, human approvals, and useful outputs instead of just looking impressive in a demo.
If an AI system cannot reliably help with recurring work, stay inside boundaries, and hand useful work back to a human, it is not an operator. It is a demo.
This is not a coding-heavy framework workshop.
It is not a vague trends talk.
It is a hands-on session for people who want to design something more useful than one-off prompting or flashy agent theater.
In this workshop, you’ll define:
- the recurring job your operator should own
- what it should remember over time
- what tools it should be allowed to use
- what should still require your approval
- when it should escalate back to a human
You’ll leave with a first-draft Hermes Starter Pack for your own work: a practical blueprint you can refine and test on a real task.
A flashy agent with no memory, no boundaries, and no follow-through is still a toy.
Examples of good operator jobs:
- meeting follow-up
- research briefs
- inbox triage
- content repurposing
- weekly reporting
- project continuity
- lead triage
This workshop is for:
- founders
- operators
- marketers
- educators
- students
- consultants
- anyone who wants something more structured and reusable than one-off prompting
You do not need to code.
You do not need a paid AI subscription to participate.
You do not need to deploy anything live in the room.
Bring:
- a laptop
- a browser
- a Google account
- one repeated task from your real work, school, or projects
You’ll leave with:
- a first draft of a Hermes-style operator blueprint
- one recurring job defined for that operator
- one memory and boundaries spec
- one small real-world test to run afterward
Agenda:
- 10 min: why many AI agent demos still feel impractical
- 15 min: Hermes demo
- 10 min: where agent hype goes wrong
- 10 min: Hermes design principles
- 15 min: define your operator’s recurring job
- 20 min: build your Hermes Starter Pack
- 5 min: first test plan
- 5 min: share-outs and next steps
