男体山 Nantai (Nikko area) 2484M Sunday 15th 100meizan

Nantai is a sacred mountain. It was closed to women for a 1000 years and it is maintained by the shrine at the hike entrance. Even nowadays there are some restrictions such as hiking only between May and October.

Meeting place Tobu Station at 9AM (both Tobu and JR stations are next to each other so you may use whatever is more convenient) take the 09:05 bus in front of the station. Hike starts at 10AM from the Futara shrine. There are no shops nearby and we will not stop there for shopping, so have all your supplies ready in advance.

We will climb Nantaisan from the shrine, for the climb down we will take the northern route through the mountain hut and reach a different bus stop. There is a restaurant at this place so you may count on it if you want to eat when we finish the hike. Technically it is an easy with no exposed climbing, but it is quite long, 7+ hours according to the map and 1,212m elevation change so please join only if you have good stamina and have done similar hikes in the past.

The shrine charges 1,000yen fee per person for the mountain path maintenance, we are going to be honest and pay it, if you have any problem with this please do not join.

This is not a tour, only friends hiking together, you are responsible of your own safety at all times. Please do not litter and take back all your trash.
