2013 - The Year of the Upgrades

Join us at the final Atlassian User Group of 2013 for a presentation by Peter Woolley, Applications Development Manager at the University of Auckland.

At the beginning of 2013 the University of Auckland (UoA) made the decision to upgrade two key tools, JIRA and Confluence (Wiki); the UoA Wiki is seen as a key corporate tool used in both teaching and research spaces. Neither JIRA or Confluence had been upgraded or well maintained for at least the past two years. The upgrade journey for both applications has been a lot tougher than expected. It required server rebuilds, licensing tidy ups, extensive plugin upgrades, user and user group cleaning and process changes. In addition, Unicode enablement and Disaster Recovery have become priorities. At the end of the journey the University of Auckland are proud to have well built, robust toolsets, with future upgrade paths. In addition the uptake and use of these tools has increased with smaller faculty IT teams using JIRA and the University as a whole increasing its usage of Confluence.

Peter Woolley is the Applications Development Manager at the University of Auckland. Peter has worked in the software development discipline for 17 years utilising technologies such as VB, ASP, MS SQL, .NET, Perl. Working his way from a graduate developer to his current development manager role. Peter manages a team responsible for developing internal and external facing web applications written in GRAILS, PeopleSoft ERP and Integration. Peter holds a Master’s Degree in Arts from the University of Auckland. He regularly presents to groups in the IT industry and the Universities on use of Agile methodologies and Software Development. Peter enjoys weightlifting, hiking, good New Zealand wine and travelling.
