There's a browser API for that -- Giving Web Apps Some Native Touches

Hosted by Mark W. H.
Details
In this talk we’ll discuss pros and cons of developing web apps, mobile apps, and progressive web apps in a world where the mobile phone’s reign is supreme. Then we’ll dive into some browser APIs that you can employ to add native app-like functionality to your web apps. These features are rarely supported across all platforms and devices making for challenging technical and design decisions. But using these APIs can enable your apps to use GPS for location-aware features, use the phone’s camera as a QR code scanner (or as a camera!), enable video conferencing and more! All of these browser APIs are accessible via vanilla javascript or your favorite js framework. It’s an ever-shifting landscape and will hopefully be fully supported by Google and Apple in the near future.
