What we’re about
We meet in a peaceful and inspiring environment where everyone can learn about meditation and Buddhism. The meditation and Buddhist practices that are taught have been carefully adapted so that they are suitable for everyone to easily incorporate into their modern lifestyles. Whether you are looking for meditation for relaxation or if you are seeking to find pure happiness and lasting inner peace, there are an abundance of classes you may attend. We offer day and evening classes, retreats, special full day courses and weekend courses. We also provide evening classes in Okotoks.
Akshobya Kadampa Buddhist Centre is located in Calgary, Alberta and is a member of the New Kadampa Tradition – International Kadampa Buddhist Union. We are one of over a thousand centres worldwide founded by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. We create a warm and welcoming environment for everyone to come and learn, seek truth and ask questions to improve their lives and spiritual practices. More information can be found on our website: www.meditateincalgary.org. We look forward to meeting you!
Upcoming events (4+)
See all- Shelter From the Storm ~ Refuge Ceremony & Teachings - Day 4Akshobya Kadampa Buddhist Centre , Calgary, AB
Buddha taught how all of our problems and unhappiness are rooted in negative states of mind such as anger, attachment, and confusion. Unless we learn practical methods to let go of these negative minds it will be impossible for us to experience real freedom and happiness, and we will find that we are unable to maintain a happy mind when things are not going well for us in life.
On this partially guided retreat, we will engage in meditations to help us develop deep faith in the Three Jewels – Buddha, Dharma (Buddhist teachings), and Sangha (the spiritual community). By going for refuge to the 3 Jewels we can overcome our negative states of find, find mental stability, and permanent freedom from our problems. Seeking refuge in the Three Jewels is the essence of the Buddhist way of life.
It’s highly recommended that you attend the day course on Saturday and the guided retreat on Sunday to understand clearly what to do on this mostly unguided retreat.
The prayer booklet we will be using for this retreat is “Essence of Good Fortune”. It will be made available for you to use at the Centre.
You will receive instructions for the unguided retreat sessions.###### Schedule
