San Marcos Nice Trip

Details
NOTICE: HAD TO CHANGE THE TRIP TO SUNDAY. This is a nice fun trip. In fact let's call it the Nice Trip! This will be a six-mile float on the clear flowing San Marcos River from San Marcos City Park, 170 Charles Austin Drive in San Marcos, to the San Marcos River Retreat. No charges for paid members, except everyone will pay their own expenses, which will include a nominal car fee at the River Retreat takeout. ACR members and their guests are free otherwise. If you are a drop-in paddler or haven't paid your dues, you are certainly welcome to join us but there will also be a $10 trip fee (we want you to join the club!) The trip will include two dams that may be portaged. Rio Vista dam may be run or portaged. The second dam downstream will require a portage, avoid getting near the lip of the dam. Have a rope on your boat. There will be some fun rapids along the way.
Setting the start time a bit earlier than usual to help beat the worst of the tube epidemic that has grown on this river. Meet at the San Marcos City Park at the parking near the river access at 8:00 am to drop boats. Everyone to sign the release form. We will run our own shuttle. Someone will have to stay with the boats while we shuttle the cars. We will caravan to Tom and Paula Goynes’ San Marcos River Retreat at 444 Pecan Park Drive down Hwy 80, to drop boats. There you will sign in at the entry point and bring cash for the entry fee. We'll leave cars and come back in one or two of our vehicles to leave at the City Park. A 6-mile trip, so say 3 hours. Bring a lunch, we'll pick a spot along the way.
The usual qualifications and requirements as on all our trips, USCG rated wearable PFD's required for each person. Any child 13 or less must wear pfd's at all times. If water levels look up due to rains PFD's must be worn at all times. You must be a confident swimmer. No bare feet. Strap sandals or shoes must be worn, not loose flip flops. No glass bottles on the river. Bring hat, water for staying hydrated, and sunscreen. We will meet at the City Park.
NOTE: If the rain gods send us more of the good stuff, this trip may be relocated to the Guadalupe or elsewhere. Always check here for latest updates before the trip. Conditions do change!
Paddling is an inherently dangerous sport. You are fully responsible for your own safety decisions and personal effects, traveling to and from and while on the trip. By attending this trip you are confirming that you recognize the club has no responsibility for any personal property losses, damage, theft or injury sustained while traveling to and from and while on the trip.
SYOTR!
