What we’re about
Welcome to the Alamo Reading Rainbro Circle (ARRC), a San Antonio-based LGBTQIA+ book club centering gay male narratives. We meet monthly for engaging, in-person discussions that celebrate queer literature and community. Join us in exploring powerful stories and building meaningful connections.
WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE JOINING ARRC
To keep our book club engaging, respectful, and safe for all, we’ve developed a set of community guidelines. These are rooted in our values of inclusivity, curiosity, and care for one another. Here are a few key highlights:
❧ Respect & Inclusion: We center the gay male experience but welcome people of all identities, backgrounds, and experiences. We’re committed to keeping our space affirming for everyone.
❧ Book Suggestions & Attendance: Regular attendance matters! Consistent engagement ensures your book suggestions are considered. We believe diverse books deserve our attention—even when they push us out of our comfort zones.
❧ Communication: Members are expected to privately share an email address with the group organizer and are encouraged to join ARRC-sanctioned platforms such as Meetup, GroupMe, Google Drive, and others to stay up to date on club activities.
❧ Language & Behavior: We uphold high standards for respectful dialogue. Misgendering, slurs (outside of a literary framework), or harassment are not tolerated. Violations may result in removal from the group.
❧ Privacy & Photos: We may take promotional photos during meetings to share with stakeholders and others. We nevertheless do our best to avoid faces unless we have permission.
❧ Participation & Safety: All members must complete a short 3-question vetting form before joining. This helps us keep out bots and bad actors and ensures a secure space. In addition, this Meetup group has been set to private to protect the identities of our members.
❧ More info: We also include policies on donations, leadership, book selection, trigger warnings, and partnerships. By joining, you agree to follow all ARRC and Pride Center policies.
We’re here to build something intentional, fun, and lasting. Please take a moment to review the full guidelines (listed below) before applying to join, and let’s read together — respectfully and joyfully!
