NOTE: In the unusual event of bad weather, the Sierra Club co-leader will group email via MeetUp those with RSVPs the hike's status. In cases where the trails may be subject to closing by GCSNA at 7:30am Saturday morning the hike will not depart before 8:30am, allowing persons to check the website or call the Sierra Club co-leader at 7:30am and still make it out to the park.

Join the Friends of Government Canyon (http://www.friendsofgc.org/) and the Sierra Club for a jointly-led guided hike on one of the many trails at Government Canyon State Natural Area. Length of the hike will range from 4 to 7 miles depending on the group. Limited to the first 12 hikers; subject to cancellation.

Open to ages 13 and over; minors must be accompanied by an adult; no pets please. Dress appropriately for conditions(consider sunscreen, hat, raingear, ...)and wear sturdy shoes for hiking over rough terrain; bring two liters of water and a snack.

GCSNA (http://beta-www.tpwd.state.tx.us/state-parks/parks/find-a-park/government-canyon-state-natural-area) is located at 12861 Galm Rd (Take FM 1560 west from Helotes to Galm Rd). There is a $6 entrance fee ($3 seniors). Meet 8:15 am at the Visitors Center by the rainwater harvesting tower for an 8:30 am departure with finish by noon. Difficulty: Moderate (some steep/rocky sections).
