The PHFS presents The Mortal Storm, 1940, at the Steamer #10 Theatre.

"The next film to be shown on Sunday, May 18th, 7:00 pm, at the Steamer No. 10 Theatre in Albany is “The Mortal Storm” (1940) Comedy, B&W, 140 minutes, no close captioning.

Set in 1933, the film offers an unflinching look at the rise of the Nazis. The Roth family leads a quiet middle class life near the German Alps. The ascent to power of the Nazis creates a serious rift in the family when opinions differ about the new regime. Martin, a family friend (James Stewart) inevitably gets caught up in the turmoil. The film is one of Hollywood’s first warnings about the Nazi threat. Also stars Margaret Sullavan, Robert Young, Frank Morgan. Directed by Frank Borzage. Based on the 1937 novel by Phyllis Bottome.
