Backstage & The Golden Path to Production

As IT organizations attempt wide-scale cloud adoption, the importance of common best practices across applications and products is growing, sparking an exciting new conversation about platform teams and related disciplines like platform engineering. The problem statement driving the investment in platform teams is clear: developing, operating, and optimizing a modern application is becoming too complex for delivery teams to solve independently.

Backstage is a CNCF incubating project for building pluggable, modular IT portals and to help make tooling, processes, APIs, documentation, CI/CD and runtime resources ("the golden path") all available in an integrated way. This talk will explore the value and ecosystem of modern, agile IT paths to production using a live demo of Backstage to frame the ideas and foster discussion among attendees.

Speaker Bio: Stuart Charlton is a Principal Solution Architect, with VMware Tanzu R&D, focusing on strategic products and customers.
He was previously a Principal Architect at Pivotal Software, the General Manager of IT Infrastructure & Operations at Canadian Pacific Railway, and a technology consultant for over 25 years. He is based in Calgary, Canada.
