Amazon said the album showcased "just the right blend of punk, funk, and hip-hop." This was the RHCP's first album after signing with Warner Records. It brought them monstrous mainstream success, selling 15 million copies worldwide on the strength of funky hit singles like "Give It Away" and "Suck My Kiss," but most importantly, the #2 hit "Under the Bridge."
