"Hellinger [the originator of this healing modality] observed that every member of a family system needs to be recognized in order for the system to be balanced and harmonious. Sometimes due to extremely painful circumstances such as the death of a child or parent, mental illness, suicide, incarceration, or any kind of abuse, a family member shuts down, is excluded, or is forgotten. When an entire generation experiences a trauma, well-intentioned members of that generation often choose not to talk about it with future generations as a way to protect them from the pain.
Unfortunately, ignorance does not shield our descendants from the influence of these events.
