I just got back from exploring Zion and it was breathtakingly beautiful. I haven’t traveled as much to Albuquerque as I was hoping, so I could lead some hikes, but I wanted to include my New Mexico friends in this adventure I posted in my Prescott Hiking group. In that group we also mountain bike and kayak. We go on field trips throughout the year and this is one I’ve planned. We will take a 3 day, 2 night field trip to Zion, Utah.

On Friday October 2, at noon, we will start our adventures kayaking at Quail Creek State Park (lake.) I will guide you through a tree forest at the lake and toward a bay where there are a lot of turtles and beavers. We will then kayak back to shore where you can just swim or hang out on the beach. The temperatures are expected to be in the 80’s.

On Saturday October 3, we will hike the infamous “Narrows” slot canyon for 9.4 miles, out and back. We will hike the Virgin River to Big Spring and turn around. Most of this hike is spent in water and some places can get chest deep. Hiking poles are recommended. The rocks in the river can be slippery so hiking shoes with good tread are recommended. For those of you who do not want to hike the entire 9.4 miles, you can turn around at any point and meet us at the beginning of the hike. This hike is amazing and you will see small waterfalls. The Narrows is considered a slot canyon.

On Sunday October 4, I will guide you on an e bike tour through Zion National Park. We will bike approximately 16-20 miles, out and back. We will stop several places along the way and at the Zion Canyon Lodge for a coffee break.

I will need a final headcount by August 1, so I can make reservations at the hotels, rentals for kayaks, and rentals for e bikes. I will host an in person meeting on August 8 at Flying Star, so I can go over the final details with you, to get you booked and checked in with waivers signed for the kayak and e bike rentals. I will post a meetup for this meeting.

In the photos section are some highlights of my adventure.
