What we’re about
The Albuquerque Historical Society (AHS) is a non-profit, membership organization of residents interested in promoting and preserving all matters relating to the history of Albuquerque, New Mexico and the surrounding communities. Founded in 1947 as the Old Town Historical Society, it originally focused on efforts to preserve the historic character of Old Town Albuquerque. Currently, AHS sponsors a series of monthly Programs and provides Educators with teacher resource guides. We also maintain a Speakers Bureau for primary and secondary schools, host a repository of Source Documents for education and research and honor individuals or group with Albuquerque History Accolades.

### July AHS Program – “Celebrating 70 Years of Music: 95.5 Classical KHFM”
Join Brent Stevens on Sunday, July 20, 2025 at 2 pm, as she describes the history of Albuquerque’s first commercial FM station. KHFM began in 1954 as a project by two Highland High School teachers and grew in power and reach over the decades. After several ownership changes and a threatened format shift, the classical music station ultimately moved from 96.3 to 95.5 MHz and became a non-commercial station in 2017 under the nonprofit KHFM Community Partners, preserving its classical format. The program will be held at the Albuquerque Museum at 2000 Mountain Rd. NW in Old Town. Parking is free in the lot south of the Museum. Admission to the Museum and the AHS program is also free.
Brent Stevens was born and raised in Albuquerque and has been in show business since he was 11 years old. In addition to his job at KHFM, Brent is a theatrical Sound Designer and recording engineer; the American Record Guide called his recording of Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony “the kind of sound big-name recording companies aim for and often miss.” Brent also produces live broadcasts for Opera Southwest, heard nationwide in WFMT’s American Opera Radio Series from May through December. His recording of the OSW production of Faccio’s Amleto (Hamlet) has been featured in the Metropolitan Opera’s gift shop and was named one of the top 10 opera cds of the year by Opera Today. Brent is KHFM’s Program Director.
