More troubled and troubling than King Henry IV Part 1, the play continues the story of King Henry's decline and Hal's reform. Though Part 2 echoes the structure of the earlier play, it is a darker and more unsettling world, in which even Falstaff's revelry is more tired and cynical, and the once-merry Hal sloughs off his tavern companions to become King Henry V.

Our group will be reading King Henry IV, Part 2 for 2026 (February 2026-Spring 2027). We typically read from the Arden Third Series, but you are welcome to join us and read along with any edition you may have or with the Folger online edition. Our group reads line by line- discussing the text, history, and other relevant topics. Our "Close Readings" are extremely in-depth. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, everyone is welcome!

Please support our group. A donation of $2.00 is suggested for this event. Since we are not meeting in person, I ask that you "save up" your donations and make one for $24, which supports our group for half a month, or for $48, which supports our group for a full month. Thank you for your generosity!
