About us
Hostačov Events is a place to share and coordinate gatherings at and around Hostačov, a 16th-century château in the Czech Highlands, about 70 minutes from Prague.
We use this group to post invitations to events we organise or support: retreats, salons, workshops, festivals, dinners, and other experimental formats.
Most take place at Hostačov; some happen in other locations and contexts.
What connects them is not a single topic but an orientation. Care in how things are done, seriousness about ideas and relationships, and an interest in formats that let people engage more deeply than usual.
This group is open and free to join. Events vary in size, location, and focus, and not every one will be for everyone.
Join if you'd like to stay informed about upcoming gatherings.

What is education for when knowledge is everywhere?
As AI changes how we access knowledge, learn and work, we have an opportunity to rethink education from first principles.
This four-day unconference brings together educators, students, researchers and technologists to explore three questions:- WHY do we educate? What human capabilities and values matter most?
- HOW could our educational systems better support those objectives?
- WHAT'S NEXT? What experiments and changes can we actually put into practice?
### ✨ Programme highlights
- 🏛️ Patrice McMahon, former Provost of Minerva University, on the future of higher education and rethinking universities.
- 🧠 Thoger, cofounder of Wise AI, on exploring education through AI-guided conversations with philosophers including Aristotle, Confucius and Dewey.
- 🌍 Eman, an educator from Gaza, on using AI to support teaching under extraordinary conditions and creating new learning opportunities for young people.
- 🛠️ Christine Tan, Director of Effective Thesis, leads a mini-hackathon on interventions for wiser, more impactful education.
The gathering is organised by Hana McMahon-Cole, former Director of Effective Thesis and current Cognitive Systems student at the University of Potsdam, together with Amelia Kroner and Patrice McMahon.

Economy, AI & Social Change
Hostačov 59, Hostačov 59, 582 82 Skryje-Golčův Jeníkov, Czechia, Skryje, CZWhat happens as increasingly capable AI enters the economy? Who stands to benefit, what happens to work, and how much influence do we have over the direction of these changes?
Join us for a residential gathering exploring the economic and political consequences of AI, bringing together economists, researchers, technologists, policymakers and people working on social change.
Some of the questions and sessions taking shape:- 💰 Who shares the AI dividend? Public ownership, windfall clauses and ways to distribute AI-generated wealth.
- ⚖️ AI and the future of work. Automation, labour markets, inequality and bargaining power.
- 🔒 The enshittification of the economy. Platform dependence, monopolies and the concentration of economic power.
- 🤖 What if AI development stopped tomorrow? The consequences of deploying capabilities we already have, and the risk of gradually losing human influence over economic systems.
- 📊 How quickly could AI transform the economy? Quantitative models of AI deployment and their underlying assumptions.
The gathering follows an unconference format, with a few prepared contributions and plenty of room for participant-led discussions, workshops and research sessions. We particularly welcome different perspectives on the political economy of AI, including from labour movements and civil society.
