At the request of Dwayne, the location of Canoe Trip 6/25 has been changed from Niger Lake to Fishog Lake on Aug. 6, 2025.
This will be a short easy trip for the benefit of new paddlers. Paddle distance 2 km. No portages.
We will meet at:
The Head Lake Boat Launch parking lot

At 10:00 AM. Sat. Aug. 9, 2025. Dwayne does not like to be late.
Dwayne will lead us from Head Lake to the put in at Fishog Lake.
Distance from the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre to Head Lake:
149 km. , 2 hours.
Take 404 north and Hwy 48 north to Bexley Rd. (Kawartha Lakes County Rd 41)
Turn right on to Monck Rd. (Kawartha Lakes County Rd 45).
The parking lot is on your left in 1 km.
Fishog Lake is located in the 33,505 hectare, Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands Provincial Park, established in 2002.
Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands Park is classed a natural environment park. Natural environment parks incorporate outstanding recreational landscapes with representative natural and historical features to provide high quality recreational and educational experiences (MNR, 1992). Activities permitted in this classification include back country travel and camping, car camping, hunting, fishing, boating, hiking, cross country skiing, picnicking, biking, and swimming. Consistent with the Ontario’s Living Legacy Land Use Strategy, hunting, fishing and fur harvesting will be allowed to continue within this provincial park.

Dwayne assures us that there are no cottages, and few power boats on Fishog Lake, and 11 well-kept campsites with thunder boxes. We will have no trouble finding parking, at $10 per day, and a vacant campsite.
Fishog Lake is in Bear Management Area MD-56-008.
Fishog Lake spans 117.6 hectares, and contains largemouth and smallmouth bass. Other popular species include walleye, northern pike, lake trout, brown trout, and chinook salmon. The lake also has populations of black crappie and yellow perch.
