Fractals are mathematical shapes which are self-similar at different scales. They are infinitely detailed, and can often be stunningly beautiful and organic in appearance. Nature itself is full of fractals - plants, river systems, electrical lighting, shells, clouds and snowflakes are just some examples.
We're lucky to have Brod Ross, a local artist with a passion for imagining and rendering worlds using fractals, lead a hands-on tutorial on using Mandelbulb 3D to create your own stunning designs.
Not only are objects designed using intricate fractals, the scenes are rendered using algorithms that simulate how light and shadow works.
You don't need to be a mathematician, or even a designer, to enjoy this session. You just need to bring your imagination, and the tool will do all the hard work for you!
