Physics describes nature using the language of mathematics. And that maths doesn't always behave in a boring predictable way - it can become chaotic!

We're very lucky to have Hector Durham, a mathematician, lead a session exploring that chaos.

Hector will explain how chaos emerges even in simple natural systems, like a double pendulum, or the populations of predator and prey, or the weather itself.

He'll then demonstrate how visualising the behaviour of such systems, mapping the boundaries between predictable and chaotic behaviour, leads to beautiful images and animations.

You don't need to be an experienced mathematician or scientist to enjoy this session. There will be something for beginners as well as more advanced participants.
