Aquaponics Tour at Fullerton College Horticulture Department

Details
March 11th, not the 4th
For the tour we will be looking at a greenhouse that serves both aquaponic and hydroponic systems: The custom built DWC aquaponic system has 2-28' x 4' raised troughs that are used to grow leafy crops. Two separate 350 gallon tanks house tilapia that feed nutrients to the crops and two different biofilter systems. They conduct experiments on the plants-not on the fish. Additionally, they have a separate breeding tank set up in an IBC tote. The hydroponic demonstration unit grows 3 varieties of tomatoes using Bato Buckets fed by an automatic nutrient system using conventional mineral nutrients. They are also experimenting with ZipGrow Towers using recirculating nutrients.
Also, they will be having their annual tomato sale that weekend so there will be plenty of free parking and plant seedlings to stock up on!
