Photography Hike at Stone Mountain

Hike Details: Come join us for something a little different! Bring your phone or camera and let's explore the natural world in smaller detail with photographic enthusiast Brandy Whittenburg. We will depart from the Stone Mountain lower parking lot. The goal is for hikers to slow down and observe the natural surroundings and appreciate what we might usually miss on a regular hike. From tiny mosses or critters to flowers, rocks and interesting man-made structures. Let's look at things in a different light! Brandy will offer tips and advice. This will be a slower hike, at whatever pace suits the group for exploring. We will visit the Homestead and walk along the creek and go out on Wolf Rock. Total walk will be about 3 miles.

Difficulty: This is considered a moderate hike.

How to Find Us and Access Note: From the Park Entrance, take the Stone Mountain Road to the parking lot for the Stone Mountain Trail and the Hutchinson Farm access. We will meet in the lower parking lot at the Comfort Station. A link to the lower trailhead at the parking lot and to the Stone Mountain Park map follows. We also use the All-Trails app for our hikes and recommend you download:

Weather: This hike is weather dependent. If the weather forecast turns inclement, we will possibly reschedule the event for a different day and time. If it is questionable, please check back here to the home page before the event to see if conditions have changed, we will try to update event status as timely as practical.

Other Info: You should expect roots, rocks and poor footing in some locations on the trails. To reduce the chance of a fall and for balance, a hiking pole or poles is recommended. Also, please wear shoes with good ankle support and traction. You should bring water, comfortable clothing appropriate for the weather and season (example: warm gear in cold weather and rain gear for seasonal hikes is always a good idea), a snack if desired (please pack out any trash), and during bug season a good repellant for mosquitos and ticks may be desired. Please abide by our dog policy.

Terms of Participation: Participation in this event constitutes acceptance of the terms of participation as listed for this group on its homepage. On behalf of yourself and any guest you invite, participation in our events is entirely at your own risk.
