Devil's Garden Overlook to Brinegar Cabin

Details

Description: This could be a trail that many have not yet explored, but it's worth the hike! It's on the MST from Devil's Garden Overlook to Brinegar Cabin. This is an out and back, 2.93 miles each way, with an elevation gain of 465 feet. This trail is mostly in the shade, but we will come out and cross and walk along The Parkway a couple times. The trail is passable but there are still some trees that will need to be stepped over from the storms, that have yet to be cleared. For those who would prefer a shorter hike, we will have a car at Brinegar Cabin to shuttle drivers back to their car.

Difficulty: The distance is just under 6 miles, both ways. The hike is rated moderate, ups and downs going both ways. We will stop at the picnic tables at Brinegar Cabin for snacks and a rest before heading back.

IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING ACCESS: Access the Parkway from Route 21 or from Mahogany Rock Rd., Route 18 is currently closed to traffic. After passing Mahogany Rock Rd., you will pass Mahogany Rock Overlook on the right, and the next overlook on the left is Devil's Garden; there is no sign.

Weather: This hike is weather dependent. If the weather forecast turns inclement, we will possibly reschedule the event for a different day and time. If it is questionable, please check back here to the home page before the event to see if conditions have changed, we will try to update event status as timely as practical.

Other Info: You should expect roots, rocks and poor footing in some locations on the trails. To reduce the chance of a fall and for balance, a hiking pole or poles is recommended. Also, please wear shoes with good ankle support and traction. You should bring water, comfortable clothing appropriate for the weather and season (example: warm gear in cold weather and rain gear for seasonal hikes is always a good idea), a snack if desired (please pack out any trash), and during bug season a good repellant for mosquitos and ticks may be desired. Well-behaved dogs on leash are welcome.
