Bike ride on the GAP Garrett to Pa/ Md. Line

Details

This should be a nice ride. Eric Johnson will be leading it . He has done this ride in the past for the group. Below is his description of what we will do.

I'm planning to ride a section of the Great Allegheny Passage rail trail. Planned ride is round trip from Garrett, PA to the park at the MD/PA state line and back. If you haven't ridden on the GAP, this is a great introduction to a bucket-list worthy trail. Interesting bridges, Big Savage tunnel and overlook, Mason/Dixon line, a lovely museum at Meyersdale, and more. The trail is easily rideable on any bike (I often ride my road bike on it), relatively flat, and this ride is approx. 32 miles total, so like round tripping Lower, with a little more total vertical.

My plan is to meet at Pleasant Valley Shopping Center in Altoona behind the drug store. For anyone who wishes to convoy up. It is approx 1 1/2hr drive to Garrett. Pace is slow enough to enjoy the scenery, and stop for pictures, but if we start a bit before 9, we should easily be done by 1 or 2. On the way back there's a nice brewpub, Forbes Trail Brewing who usually have a food truck on weekends.

If anyone wants to go, or has questions feel free to message me.

UPDATE! Great Allegheny Passage and C&O Canal trails got pounded by the recent storms, C&O harder hit of the two. Good news though, I went and rode the section of the GAP we're riding next Saturday, and it's in very good shape. There are a couple of bouncy spots, literally spots, but that's it. And while I barely trust weather reports when I'm looking at the window at it, the current forecast has truly excellent biking weather for Saturday. Come ride with us!
