Winter Workshop - 3D Printing 101
Details
Make or take home a hand crafted gift and support your local makerspace during All Hands Active Winter Workshops! Each Winter Workshop will highlight the tools, materials, and resources AHA makes available to the Ann Arbor community. In our first workshop of the season, our 3D Printers Bert & Ernie, take center stage. Participants in the class portion of the workshop will learn to 3D print homemade ornaments (pictured above) with pretty, color-changing filament!
In this class, you will learn the basic concepts of FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication)/FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) 3D printing: the additive machining process that builds up structures, layer-by-layer, out of melted (plastic) material. These concepts include:
- Basic theory of FFF/FDM 3D printing, and brief overview of other types of 3D printing
- Overview of the software side of 3D printing: slicers, importing STLs, and selecting parameters for your print
- Machine operation
- Safety considerations
- Filament selection and care
- Basic troubleshooting and diagnosing common printing issues
- Remote operation
The suggested donation for this class is $25 for the general public, and $15 for current All Hands Active members. Donations can be made online at https://rhino.li/class or in-person at the event.
Items printed during this class will be sold separately and can be purchased in-person for $15 to $20. All proceeds for this class and the sale of printed items will go to the All Hands Active Holiday Fundraiser.
Attendance space for the class portion of the 3D Printing Workshop (12 pm - 2 pm) is limited. A non-refundable $5 fee is required to hold your spot in this class. After RSVPing, you may pay the reservation fee online at https://rhino.li/class. Please be mindful of the instructor and other attendee's time,
Note: This 2 hour portion of the Winter Workshop operates like the regular 3D Printing class. If you attend this first portion of the Winter Workshop, you will complete the first step in the process of becoming qualified to independently operate All Hands Active 3D Printers. You may opt to schedule a return visit to complete the second half of the qualification process at a later date.
