Radio Communication Basics
Details
Maybe there's a power outage, or the cell network goes down, or maybe people are in a dead zone or just don't have their phones with them. Can you communicate farther than you can shout? With some simple gear and know-how, yes!
Handheld radio transcievers ("walkie-talkies" or "radios") can be inexpensive and come in many varieties. This workshop is a crash-course in the basics of using handheld radios to communicate, whether downtown or in the backcountry. No experience required! The knowledge is freely given, but we will have some handheld radios you can go home with for just $50, to cover their cost and raise money for direct aid for others. We'll also be encouraging people to study for their amateur license, to make it easier to practice and use these skills.
Parking is free on Sundays in Ann Arbor. There is street parking nearby, and the library lane and 4th & william parking structures are nearby.
