3D Printing 101

Details

Learn about 3D printers and 3D printing at All Hands Active! This class will serve to orient you to the basic concepts of FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication)/FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) 3D printing: the additive machining process that builds up structures, layer-by-layer, out of melted (plastic) material.

Completing this class will also start you on the path of becoming qualified to independently operate the 3D printers at All Hands Active (and perhaps elsewhere...?). We will be covering topics such as:

- Basic theory of FFF/FDM 3D printing, and brief overview of other types of 3D printing
- Overview of the software side of 3D printing: slicers, importing STLs, and selecting parameters for your print
- Machine operation
- Safety considerations
- Filament selection and care
- Basic troubleshooting and diagnosing common printing issues
- Remote operation
- Other topics, as time allows

Optional: after the class, you may set up a date to return to demonstrate that you can confidently operate the All Hands Active printers yourself.

If you find the class to be helpful or interesting, a suggested donation of $20 for the general public, and $15 for current All Hands Active members will help us continue to provide quality training on reliable, well-maintained machines. You can always donate online beforehand (https://rhino.li/class), or in person with cash!
