Easy National Trails Day Hike at HIckey Creek

Description:
This will be an easy five-mile hike at Hickey Creek Mitigation Park’s three main trails. Meet at parking area at 8AM. Participants will be directed to gather at the covered pavilion a quarter mile from the parking area for a hike sign-in and orientation. Discussion of the significance of National Trails Day, the history of the Hickey Creek Mitigation Park, and the Alligator Amblers chapter of the Florida Trail Association will be provided. Information on park plants and animals will be discussed.

A guided approximately two-hour hike will begin about 8:30AM and end about 11AM with multiple short breaks at picnic tables and benches along the trails. Highlights of the hike are the plants and animals along the trail and the beauty of the Hickey Creek area.

Additional Information:

This event will be cancelled if heavy rain is forecast. Bathrooms are available at the parking area. Lee County Annual Parking stickers are honored at this location. Without this sticker, parking fees are $1.00 per hour.

Recommended Attire:
Cool loose fitting long-sleeve shirt, long pants, sturdy closed toe type hiking shoes, and sun hat.

What to Bring:
Please bring insect repellent, a small snack, and two quarts of water with you on the hike.

An RSVP is required for participation in all Alligator Amblers' activities. An RSVP ensures that there is space available for you. Those who have not responded will be turned away from the activity.
