Activity Description: The Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve is a long, narrow wetland with slowly flowing freshwater. The preserve contains a 1.2-mile boardwalk with an amphitheater, seating enclaves, shelters, observation decks, a photo blind, and educational displays. There is also an Interpretive Center that houses displays and interactive exhibits that provide an introduction to the wonders of the Slough. The Center contains a gift shop as well. We will walk the boardwalk, stopping occasionally to talk about the animals and plants that we see. We might see wading birds, woodpeckers, gators, ferns, and bromeliads. It is possible to maybe even see an otter. The boardwalk is in shade most of the time.
Parking is $1 an hour. You can use your Lee County Annual Parking Pass if you have one (Premium Parking). There are restrooms and drinking fountains in the interpretive center and also at the start of the boardwalk. We will walk rain or shine, unless there is thunder and/or lightning.
