Centipede Mountain Bike Trail between Golden Lantern and the 5 Freeway in Orange County CA. It is between Laguna Niguel and San Juan Capistrano. This is an intermediate to advanced single track trail. It is near Colinas Ridge and can be connected to Trabuco Canyon. It is mainly dirt with a few bridges in the bottom half. The Top half is an intermediate trail and all dirt. There is one short steep section that looks like a drop, but it isn't and a spot where there are two quick switchbacks that make this a challenge. The bottom section has some humps that can toss you off the trail and a few narrow bridges that make it an advanced mountain bike trail.

  • EDGE & LEDGE - COLINAS BLUFF-The Edge and Ledge MTB Trail is a short steep twisty trail off the Colinas Bluff Trail. It shares the same trail head as Centipede and Hole-in-one. This is a short trail that can be lapped in about 15 minutes. It is made up of steep turns with on wooden feature. Mountain bikers start on the Colinas Bluff trail, then start down the Hole-in-one trail. A short distance after the start there is a left berm that is easy to miss. This turn is for Edge and Ledge. I would rate this as an advanced trail because there are just so many places were things can go wrong. Edge and Ledge is all dirt with the exception of one narrow wooden feature that you won't see until you are on it. If you mountain bike the top half and turn on the hillside trail you can complete a quick lap in under 15 minutes. I often do this to start my rides and call this the first section of my "Chimera" ride. One advantage of riding Edge and Ledge is it is not hiker friendly so there are rarely hikers on the trail. I guess this is more true for the top section, then the bottom. The Edge and Ledge mountain bike trail starts in Laguna Niguel and drops into San Juan Capistrano in Southern Orange County. When the brush starts to die down you can often see this trail while driving south on the 5 freeway. Many people use this area as part of a larger loop, while others just come here for the steeps. As of April 2020, the extended version of the trail has been cleared. A big shout out goes to the local trail workers.
