🚴 05/20 WED 5:30 PM | BLACK STAR CANYON (SILVERADO) | BLUE LEVEL 🚴
Details
Distance 13+ miles // Elevation 1,800+ feet
**Bring lights**
Join us for a night ride through Black Star Canyon in the Santa Ana Mountains above Silverado. This route is one of Orange County’s most iconic mountain bike climbs featuring a long fire road winding through rugged canyon terrain, old mining country, oak groves, and remote backcountry ridge lines.
Riding Black Star at night is a completely different experience. Once the sun goes down, the canyon becomes quiet, cool, and surreal, with city lights glowing in the distance and the sounds of the wilderness all around us. The climb is steady and challenging, and the descent under the stars is always a highlight.
Black Star Canyon is also known for its rich and mysterious history. The area contains remnants of old coal mining operations dating back to the late 1800s and has long been the subject of local folklore and ghost stories. Whether you believe the legends or not, it definitely adds to the atmosphere on a night ride.
BLUE LEVEL RIDE
You have a strong understanding of shifting up and down through the gears. You can brake appropriately on descents and maintain a comfortable and sturdy stance on controlled climbs and descents. You are confident to ride through various technical features (roots, rocks, tight turns,) although you are most comfortable at a slow and controlled pace.
