The weather is supposed to be low 70s and sunny so come join All Things LA for a Saturday morning workout on the water. We'll rent kayaks (single or double) and explore the harbor in Belmont Shores. Depending on the size/level of the group we'll paddle around Alamitos Bay and/or through the canals surrounding Naples Island. Since it's a bay instead of the open ocean, the water is generally calm so a great spot for beginners. Kayaking is a great workout but requires no prior experience so everybody is welcome. Also it's within a couple blocks of the main street in Belmont Shores so there's lots of great places to get lunch/coffee/ice cream afterwards.

Basics:

  • Location: Kayaks on the Water (5411 E. Ocean Blvd, Long Beach, CA 90803)
  • Estimated Time: 1.5 hours (2 hours if we have 20+ people)

Additional Info:

  • Level: All levels are welcome, no prior experience is required (you can learn basic kayaking in about 2 minutes)
  • Pace: We'll go at a slow to moderate pace depending on the group, you're welcome to go ahead but nobody gets left behind
  • Equipment provided: single or double kayak, paddle, life jacket, waterproof bag
  • What to Bring: sunscreen or hat, camera, bottle of water, jacket if it's cool out
  • Restrooms: There are public restrooms next to the rental location

  • Note: event will be cancelled for inclement weather or rough water

Getting There:

  • Carpool: Use Comments section on the event page to coordinate with other members
  • Location: Meet at the picnic tables next to Kayaks on the Water at 8:45am - they open at 9am so we'll get on the water first thing
  • Parking: You can find free street parking on the neighboring streets - I've never had to park more than 3 blocks away
