BUCHANAN PASS TRAIL TO TIMBERLINE FALLS IN WARD, CO. & LUNCH IN NEDERLAND!

Details

Explore this beautiful 7.9-mile out-and-back trail with 941 ft. elevation gain, in the Indian Peaks Wilderness area, near Ward, Colorado. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 3 h 14 min to complete. This is a popular trail for birding, hiking, and mountain biking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The best times to visit this trail are March through October. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.
OUR ROUTE:
We'll park above Camp Dick and hike away from the campground toward the Divide and veer right, off the four-wheel road a few minutes after starting - there is a sign off the road and a bridge over the river to let us know we're on the right track. The St. Vrain River provides cascading water all along the trail, with lots of shade and great photo ops! There is also a small, but beautiful waterfall, between huge boulders, visible on the first leg of the route. Expect the occasional deer and moose or two and bears are not unheard of.

***We wait 5 MINUTES MAXIMUM for hikers who arrive late, out of consideration for those arriving on time. Please allow some extra time to drive to the trailhead.***
IMPORTANT: Your participation in this event is at your own risk, and you are solely responsible for your personal hiking experience, from start to finish. Please consider your fitness/comfort level & the demands of this hike (length/elevation gain/difficulty) prior to signing up.

DIRECTIONS:
Located along the Middle St. Vrain Creek, in the Roosevelt National Forest.
** Drive out of Nederland: 18 miles (28 minutes) on Hwy 72 (Peak-To-Peak Hwy). Approximately 6.5 miles north of Ward, Colorado, on Colorado Highway 72, watch for signs for PEACEFUL VALLEY AND CAMP DICK CAMPGROUNDS, on your left. Turn west onto Middle Saint Vrain Road (County Road 92 and National Forest System Road 114) and proceed 1.25 miles to the west end of Camp Dick (you'll drive through two campgrounds en route to the trailhead). We'll meet in the parking lot by the large trails map sign. Restrooms are nearby the parking lot.
