The next Alterfutures presents two collaborative pairings who are challenging the idea of 'wearables' :

Carlos Monleón and Alexa Pollmann will present a critique of the concept ‘wearables’ and suggest an alternative understanding to the one currently given by the industry. They will show a series of personal projects and case studies that will expand on the notions of ‘wearing’ and ‘wears’ as interfaces between bodies and environments.

Alexa Pollmann has worked in various fields of the fashion industry. Speculative designers, Mike Vanis & Koby Barhad are the current British Council Maker Library makers in residence at Machines Room (exhibition opening 5/2/12). They will present the ideas behind the prototype they have developed for their ‘Swipe to Shoot’ project - a 3D printed iPhone controlled gun trigger.
Mike Vanis is an interaction designer and creative technologist based in London. His work finds itself at the intersections between speculative science and reality. By using simulations, prototypes, and logic to explore plausibility and reaction, he brings impossible scenarios to life in order to discuss the implications of scientific and ethical progress. > http://mikevanis.com/ (http://mikevanis.com/)
Koby Barhad is a designer and researcher continuously looking at untouched and hidden encounters between expeditious technological progress and the cultural trends that surround it.
