If you have a sewing machine but it still feels confusing (or intimidating), Sewing 101 will help you finally understand it. This beginner-friendly, hands-on 3-hour workshop focuses on the essential skills that make sewing easier: how your machine works, how to set it up correctly, and how to get clean, consistent stitches.
Bring your own sewing machine and learn on the exact equipment you’ll use at home—so you leave with skills you can repeat confidently.
What you’ll learn:

  • Know your machine: identify key parts and what they do
  • Basic machine care: simple maintenance habits to prevent common issues
  • Threading + threads: how to thread correctly and choose thread appropriately
  • Bobbin winding + stitch tension: set up for balanced, reliable stitching
  • Stitch types: what they’re for and when to use them
  • Essential tools: scissors, pins & pin cushion, measuring tape, gauges, seam ripper, and more
  • Core machine operations: straight stitching, pivoting, backstitching, curves, and control techniques
  • Seam finishes: cleaner edges and stronger results
  • Fabric basics: common fabric types and how they behave under the needle

There’s no final project—this class is about building a strong foundation. You’ll practice key techniques, ask questions as you go, and leave with a clear understanding of how to set up and operate your machine with confidence.
