Ride for Natasha

Details
6:45 AM Meet Up - Bicycle Checks and Rider Prep 7:15 AM Ride Begins 11:30 AM Ride Ends & Photo Ops This ride honors Natasha H. Pettigrew and all unsung heroes while recognizing the milestones in Prince George's County for cycling and pedestrians. The ride will begin in parking lot 1, Jericho City Drive & Brightseat Road. All levels of Riders are Welcome!. Two Routes are available for all levels of riders. We have a 46-mile ride to the Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley Memorial in Annapolis, MD, and a 15-mile local ride in PG County, MD. These routes split at mile 6.9. Check the Cue Sheets for Details. On the way down to Annapolis we will have a unified ride at a conversational pace, based on your riding level. If you are riding to Annapolis, the rest stop has food and bathrooms available inside the nearby restaurants. If you want to grab a bite to eat, please do so once you arrive at the rest stop to eat and roll out in time when the group leaves. SAG will be provided for both routes. There are more collisions in PG County involving pedestrians in any of the other counties… our ride sends a message that the roads belong to all of us, and we must respect the streets and the cyclists. Natasha was hit and killed on September 19th, 2010, while riding her bicycle as she trained for a Half Ironman. The driver hit her and continued home with Natasha's bicycle lodged under her SUV. This ride calls attention to the need for keen awareness so that everyone can share the road resources. In addition, the ride helps to remember the loss of a beautiful lady who was gone too soon!!!
