Hike- Angel Island State Park, Perimeter Road

Details

This fun 6 mile hike around Angel Island can include great views of San Francisco, the Golden Gate bridge and Alcatraz Island, if the weather cooperates. As well as visits to historic island sites such as the 19th century emigration station at China Cove, the Civil War era Camp Reynolds military post and options to ascend the highest point on the island or drop down to some beaches.

This is rated a moderate hike on a paved or gravel road. There are a few very steep sections going down to some of the optional sights along the loop.

The ferry ride will cost $18/$16 seniors (cash only or reserve online) and parking in Tiburon appears to run about $5 for the day in the lot near Chase bank.

Bring your usual hiking paraphernalia including snacks and plenty of water. Some food and drinks are usually available on the island at the dock.

Plan to meet 9:30am at the Angel Island Ferry Terminal in Tiburon. We will catch the 10am ferry to Angel Island State Park to begin our 6 mile hike of the Island Perimeter Rd. The 3:30pm ferry will return us to mainland Tiburon.

If you wish to carpool from Amador County plan to meet by 6:45am in the Safeway parking lot to organize a carpool to the Tiburon Ferry terminal (2.5hr drive) and meet us at the Ferry Terminal. Plan on a 9:30 arrival in Tiburon.
