We are honored to bring you Tim Flagler, Fly Tyer Magazine's 2022 Fly Tyer of the Year.

Tim will be sharing in person one of his most popular topics, "What trout like to eat & flies to feed them". Tim's video-based presentation includes incredible underwater footage of a variety of aquatic insects, bait fish & crustaceans that trout eat in order to survive. In addition, Tim will share the fly patterns we use to best imitate the variety of bugs discussed.

Members and guest(s) of all levels of experience are strongly encouraged to attend.
Contact the AFF Host if you or your guest(s) would like to request instruction or loaner equipment at least a week prior to the outing.
Be courteous and change your RSVP to “Not Attending” if you are unable to attend the outing so that we are not waiting for you. You can also contact and inform the AFF Host or another attending member. For safety reasons let the AFF Host or another attending member know if you leave an outing early. Otherwise, we will be searching for you at the end of the outing.
We will be fishing for Rainbow and Lahontan Cutthroat Trout to 28" or more. An occasional Brown can also be caught. There are eagles and osprey, occasional bear, coyote, pelicans, etc. to entertain you while you fish.
A float tube, Kayak or small boat will allow you to cover much of the lake. The use of a 4 or 5wt rod and reel with a 24' sink tip or intermediate line. You can also indicator fish with a floating line.
#14, #16 and #18 nymphs can produce lots of fish on a day trip. Pheasant tails, hare's ears, flashbacks and sheep creek specials are your best choices. Also midges and small woolly buggers can be productive.
Directions From Jackson are as follows; Drive east on Hwy. 88 past Sorensen's Resort for approx. 3 miles. Turn right on Hwy. 89 towards Markleeville. Drive approx. 3 miles and turn left onto Airport Dr. Veer left when you get to the airport and continue about a mile or two. The campsite sustained fire damage and was closed during the 2023 season. If open we will meet at the boat ramp parking lot. If not, we will meet at the north east side of the lake.

Amador Flyfishers will teach “Spring 2026 - Learn to Fly Fish Class". This will be the tenth year we have taught this class with the participants giving it five star reviews!

The cost is $100 and the class is limited to 25 people. It not only includes a full weekend of instruction on April 18 & 19 (Saturday and Sunday 9 am to 4 pm), we also will be going on local fishing outings April 25th and 26th to practice what you learned on both stillwater and moving water. Also includes a membership in AFF until the end of the year, plus muffins and coffee for breakfast and snacks.

This is a very popular class and usually fills quickly. Apply early and often!

Meetup RSVPing is requested, but you must also register for the class. You can access a registration form at https://www.amadorflyfishers.org/. You will be moved to the Going list when we receive your competed sign-up form and class fee.

As a Paid or Meetup member, you can participate in several ways:

• You can attend the class! If you consider yourself a beginner to intermediate, this course will accelerate your learning and participation in the sport.
• Maybe you have a friend you think would like to learn to fly fish. Print the flyer and registration form and bug them to sign up!
• If there is a place you frequent that allows you to post announcements (store, work, church, barber, post office, etc), please print the flyer and post. Help us increase exposure and fill the class!
• We give away prizes at the class to make it more interesting and supply the participants some initial equipment. Things given away in the past are float tubes, fins, fly lines, leaders, tippet, nippers, forceps, vests, flies, etc. Please look through your inventory and see what you want to give to a beginner fly fisher to get them started in the sport. Call the phone number on the flyer, and I'll arrange to get the stuff.
