The Comanches!
Details
Weather permitting, we will hike the entire length of both Upper and Lower Comanche trails. We will meet at The Sad Monkey Mercantile at 7:00 AM and head into the park at 7:15 AM or when everybody shows up, whichever happens first. The Sad Monkey Mercantile is located about 1 mile outside the main entrance to the park on the right side of the road. We park facing the road, the furthest from the mercantile as possible.
The Comanche Trails are some of the nicest ones in the park, with less traffic than some of the other trails and great views of the park. With some moderate hills and some flat trails, the hike will be fairly difficult due to the distance. Please be aware that the hike will be approximately 8 miles from start to finish, with no opportunity to resupply water, so please bring plenty to last the entire hike, and something to eat. Dress according to the forecast, but be prepared for changes to the weather.
We will need to stage a vehicle at the end of the trail to shuttle hikers back to the starting point of the Upper Comanche, which is the Mack Dick Pavilion. If you are willing to help support the hike by using your vehicle, please let us know. If you have a park pass and are willing to allow other hikers to ride with you, please let us know that too.
This hike is contingent on the weather and if there are significant rains in the park, they will close the trails, which will cause the hike to be cancelled as well. Please check back to this page to find up to date information about the plan.
