- CELESTIAL EVENT, CLEAR CREEK RESERVOIR WINSLOW, AZ CAMPING, Kayak & Paddle BoardMcHood Park Campsite, Winslow, AZ
CAMPING, KAYAKING/PADDLE BOARDING, BIKING, STAR GAZING, Perseid Meteor Showers will create a night sky full of AMAZING ‘Shooting Stars'.
Important note on Perseid meteor-watching in 2025: The moon will be in its waning gibbous phases during the 2025 peak of the Perseid meteor shower. Try watching this shower from late July until bright moonlight begins to obscure the view. Many Perseids are bright. So if the moon is up, you can try blocking it from view to enhance your viewing. Try standing in the shadow of a barn. This shower rises to a peak gradually, then falls off rapidly. And Perseid meteors tend to strengthen in number as late night deepens into the wee hours before dawn. The shower is often best just before dawn. And if you’re watching for meteors before dawn, don’t miss the dazzling conjunction of Venus and Jupiter in the morning sky on August 12.
Let’s get away from the big city and watch the famous Perseids meteor shower combine with alpha Capricornids, and Southern delta Aquariids showers as they tapper off. The Perseids meteor shower is the year’s best from the northern hemisphere stargazers because it combines warm weather with 50-75 + possible “shooting stars” per hour.
A meteor shower is a celestial event in which a number of meteors are observed to radiate, or originate, from one point in the night sky. These meteors are caused by streams of cosmic debris called meteoroids entering Earth's atmosphere at extremely high speeds on parallel trajectories.
What's Happening!!
Lets get a Paddle In, Maybe a Bike Ride, Tour the town, Gaze up at the night and early before dawn sky.
Enjoy friends new and old by the campfire.
Camping three nights...or as long as you would like.PFD: We will be getting on the water Sunday morning around 8:30am and explore Clear Creek reservoir, round trip should be around 8 miles... We may even Explore....(Park our crafts and hike past the end of the creek) the slotted Canyon. Last time we had an Amazing time, (swimming a little bit then hiking a little bit) hope this time we can hike even farther down the canyon. Also optional Monday getting back on the water.
We are just 7 Miles from downtown Winslow, We can head into town after our float (optional) to see what the the town of Winslow has to offer. Like check out the La Posada Hotel, try "standin' on the corner.... Maybe even grab some food... (Relic Road Brewing Company) Lunch/Dinner and maybe even an ice cream cone after.
The Eagles song “Take it Easy” made Winslow a famous little tourist city, located right off the original Route 66. But there is more to Winslow than standin’ on the corner.
Most visitors overlook the Clear Creek Reservoir which is in fact located right in Winslow! It provides great fishing, boating, swimming, and kayaking/Paddle Boarding opportunities.
It is about a 10 minute drive from downtown Winslow to the parking area and docks. From Phoenix it is roughly a 3 hour drive which makes this feasible for a day trip or over night camping!
